Every now and then a songwriter comes around that really blows your socks off. You contemplate discarding all of your writing utensils, checking your guitar in at the local pawnshop and buying some tighter fitting socks. Adam Carroll definitely has that effect. He's a Songwriter's Songwriter, writing ridiculously amazing songs chock-full of humor, insight and sweet melodies. Luckily for most songwriters we usually find more inspiration from great creations than discouragement and start noodling through different ideas to jump on. Or like Kris Kristofferson said, figure out ways to "steal each other's songs" and hence the longstanding tradition of songwriting continues on. A good friend of mine turned me on to Adam Carroll years ago and I've been a fan ever since. Songs like "Red Bandanna Blues" And "Sno Cone Man" have always been two of my favorites, but his catalog runs deep and continues to surprise me. I am not the only songwriter out there who likes this guy either:
James McMurtry said in Rolling Stone"Adam Carroll is like a very young Kris Kristofferson. He writes about things that are older than me." and Hayes Carll said in No Depression magazine when asked about who his influences were, “Influences? Adam Carroll. I used to skip my own gigs to go watch him...by far my favorite, somebody whose writing style I emulated in some ways.”
With tours crisscrossing the USA, Canada and Europe, Carroll is currently focusing on performances as a duo with Chris Carroll, Canadian singer-songwriter and Texas transplant.
It is with great pleasure to announce that Adam Carroll will be playing The Outta Space with his highly talented wife Chris followed by the amazing talent of local Chicago songwriter Peter Joly Friday August 25 @ 9pm. I cannot recommend this show enough. If you're fan of great songs and songwriting you will not be disappointed.
