Dartford Station w/ The Dry Look

The Outta Space, 6840 32nd St., Berwyn

THE DRY LOOK The Dry Look’s cracking take on the powerpop/pub-rock ouvre proves that rock nerds who grew up on Trouser Press and Creem and who tripped out to their older siblings’ Stones, Who, Kinks and Yardbirds records finally have a band they can call their very own. With a stripped-down Telecaster/bass/drums attack and harmony-tinged vocals, this Chicago trio draws from mod, pop, punk, new wave, garage and jangle and roots influences, mixing their originals with obscurities from The Jam, Kinks, Off Broadway, Flamin’ Groovies and others. Drummer Leslie Walle-Santos has held down the beats in several Chicago bands through the years and currently propels local country outfit John Ballantyne’s Crazy Heart (crazyheartmusic.com). He and bassist/singer Kevin Brady have teamed up in local bands all way back to the mid80s. Mike Ritt the guitarist/singer is a veteran of such bands as The New Normal, Shades of Al Davis and Shades of Al Davis, and most recently played alongside Kevin as the drummer in Chicago rock band House of Brunettes. Unfortunately of the three members of the Dry Look have tattoos. DARTFORD STATION The Dartford Station train platform is where in 1961 Keith Richards spied Mick Jagger waiting for the train with records by Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters tuckedunder his arm. The rest, as they say, is history. The band Dartford Station is group of (mostly) old guys—Chris Diaferio, Matt Dutkanych, Matt Malinsky, Doug Rees, Jack Whitney, and Bruce Wong—playing music by even older guys, helping all who comeout to hear the Stones’ classic hits and deep cuts stay young.
